I closed my eyes momentarily when I read the words that MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) is like the old, drunk uncle at family reunions nobody wants to talk to! But only for a moment, because my reasons for joining a matrix to make residual income with other believers was more based on philosophical content than practical commodity. 

In hindsight, this strange personal conundrum can be explained by the right conditions versus the wrong directions with a big question left unanswered, some good news, welcoming a new hero, and precautionary warnings to watch for and run away from if you are thinking about an MLM home business opportunity. After all, experience teaches us not to repeat failures and, at the same time, not to miss the Big Picture and adapt to new concepts and new resources.

THE RIGHT CONDITIONS

When I joined my first MLM company, following my retirement, the internet was an email or two delivered by a butler on a serving platter with a whistle; now many emails are phishing scams. Sales presentations and word-of-mouth recommendations resided in homes with definitive party plans. Soon enough, business websites, personal blogs and self- branding quickly evolved. Traditional bureaucracies began to give way to consumers like you and me with our likes and influences about advertising, buying patterns and more.

In fact, with a few keywords and clicks, in a very short time, the largest transfer of wealth was moving from offline to online. A new Digital Age gave birth to a new Digital Economy where a new Personal Economy was possible. E-commerce and M-commerce accelerated with continuous disruptions. The challenge became how to displace huge income disparity with income mobility.  

The truth became self-evident much later: that MLM was never about self-empowerment or mass exposure.

THE WRONG DIRECTIONS

First, the mechanics of MLM work as any sales business based on creating customers to create customers. It’s not about wrongfully trying to educate a prospect…a lifelong commitment. The process starts by selling a product and then recruiting a new salesperson to make residual income via direct and indirect referrals in a matrix. 
   

Therefore, the nature of selling is to start a conversation, and by follow-up to earn trust and value of a customer as a partnership. Even the best salespeople require a few visits to establish integrity and psychological safety. Herein lies the problem root of MLM recruiting. It requires an entire sales team to participate with the same MINDSET, same vision and dialogue to persuade others to change their mindset. How difficult is this for anyone to be on the same wavelength?

However, the biggest blunder in MLM home business industry, in my opinion, is to bait prospects by chasing their dreams. The common hook is WHY? Why do you want to make money? Why are your dreams so important? Why can’t you be the best person you can be? Why don’t you want to be part of the fastest growing, richest opportunity?

 Who would say NO to these kinds of questions? The door is open for the next pitch and sometimes a home run with a new sign-up.

The dual engine of MLM or network marketing is to recruit but also to duplicate the process, inning after inning, game after game. But, in every next inning, who will be the best pitcher and the weakest player...and therein lies another problem...at least traditionally.

However, along came the Internet and Internet Marketing. Our team was over the moon, our backyard was the whole world, we were on a Conveyor Belt to Galactic Success!  It seemed like overnight virtual space was filled with exposures of digital fireworks, subject lines, banner ads, floating buttons, space ads, and sales funnels of unlimited variations.

Pioneer marketers became the movers and shakers with early technical expertise for mass exposure, to build followers and lists. But they were promoting what they did best … aid-packages to learn guru marketing like themselves, not building a home business based on relationships. And guess what, their mantra was loud, clear and everywhere that you do not need to talk to anyone, just program yourself to be a leader everyone wants to follow. Imagine that in a selling profession where everyone touts leadership skills?

But MLM or network marketers took the bait, hook, line and sinker. We invested endless time and money into these programs to become our own self-brands, competing with lucrative marketing superstars and huge ad agencies to stand out in the crowd. Imagine a little old lady in the valley trying to make a virtual footprint?

In hindsight, of course, it was exploitation of the dream for any individual to succeed, other than the power brokers; but it was also the death knell for MLM online marketing. There was a brief period when the MLM jungle thrived online when mercenary, ego-driven entrepreneurs took advantage of proper networking principles with promises of dollar bills falling from the sky, exotic cars and holidays, and 200% commissions; just a  brief flash into oblivion filled with vulnerable bodies.  Soon EBay and Amazon readily displaced products with 70% markups to pay distributors’ commissions. 
         

So, where does personal philosophical content play a part in this journey? It started with  distribution of wellness products produced by a doctor and cellular nutritionist, seaweed elixirs that arrived frozen in a Canadian winter, and Ayurveda tonic with a celebrity endorsement who very few people seemed to know.

This physical distribution soon changed to intellectual distribution of ideas in tune with a digital world; such as, overriding search engines to find the lowest prices online. It was the first time I was intrigued to hear the term that a home business has potential for the masses with a membership of $29 a month to save and make money. Who couldn’t afford $29 to belong to a residual matrix based on a worldwide pool?  

Here began my hope as a common denominator to be a fair and democratic home business mentor. This was beyond sales; this was ethical, people helping people. In a changing world, technology should not displace opportunity, or sabotage dreams; ignorance is not a virtue. Why not fit into the Digital Economy with a People Power program and plan that can duplicate and monetize new changes with or without self-development, technical skills and no critical details missing?    

BIG QUESTION

Everyone agrees, I’m sure, that internet technology has radically changed our culture, industries and movements by continuing to recycle more disruptions. We cannot disagree that more People Power has created the greatest marketplace. We possibly may agree that we have unlimited access to information that can be comprehensive, less expensive and fast without the heavy burden of labor.  

How can we best address the reality that until you have an asset where you can use information tools to expand your knowledge and time, it is difficult to go beyond physical geography or hourly income?

GOOD NEWS

The GOOD NEWS is that as the rapidly changing economy continues, there is still power in the distribution business model, but it must be applied to the industry that is the most crucial to internet marketing; namely internet marketing itself. There is no question that this totality developed over the years has become inordinately complex and I would not wish the trials and tribulations of learning and applying it by yourself on any enemy. But today it is possible that you don’t need to know a lot; I’m certainly not an expert. You can join the marketing evolution and use a marketing mastermind’s skills, knowledge, drive and execution.

My  experience shows that there is more power than ever in today’s technology to plug into the capabilities of a large company and expert personnel. It is the universal power of LEVERAGE unleashed like never before. You have the choice for affiliation to let the experts tell the story on your behalf, explain the comp plan, testimonials and bonuses. If the prospect doesn’t get the value, he rejects the mastermind, not you.

NEW HERO

I have managed to tone all this down to how to be a self-franchised distributor in the definition of franchising “where a company can expand its business and distribute goods and services via independent agents by providing them with an operating system, brand and support.”

Who has heard of a Self-Franchised Distributor or Affiliate Marketer? I believe the time and place has come to make room for such a hero. This is the opportunity to access the potential of Internet Marketing by leveraging and sharing a single resource with a total en-suite of necessary tools to be a successful online marketer, save time and make money.

CAUTIONARY WARNINGS

In review, MLM may appear better exposed and not as dangerous but avoid hot buttons, launches and heavy-duty outdated repackaged marketing skills.

Never sign-up for any company without a free trial period that goes beyond the sales pitch to practical benefits. Make sure a refund policy is in place if money is paid to prevent buyer’s remorse. Never make a permanent decision based on a temporary emotion.

Stop thinking that there is “a beach bum and a millionaire inside you” and only you can make the difference. Business coaching or self-empowerment programs work for a few strong-minded people, they will never duplicate in a team.

Refrain from listening to self-made business gurus who tell you to feed your dreams and to believe in yourself to get better. Their magnetic charisma and well-honed speaking skills make it easy for a select few to proselytize, not generally reflective, more dream-baiting.

Run away from anyone who asks WHY do you want to be successful? Of course, you do. Instead, ask them WHAT kind of successful marketing program they use, WHY it works on today’s internet marketplace and HOW you can do it. Plenty of time to dream after your marketing strategies prove results.  

Remember the biggest blunder in MLM is hooking people’s DREAMS as a reason to start a business without an able marketing strategy. However, the biggest advantage is using professional LEVERAGE. The time is right to replace the WHY with the HOW.

Wanted: Creative Writing for A Kinder Superhero for a More Moral Social Media

Do you ever wonder why there is a general fascination with superheroes, especially for young people in their mastery of maturity? This complex question must be examined in reference to ancient mythology, today’s social conscience within social media, and creative writing to create a kinder, gentler superhero for our times.

 Who hasn’t been fascinated by Greek mythological heroes, creatures and what they represented about the origin and nature of the world? There were gods, goddesses, half human, half god, magical mortals with and without superpowers, battling fearsome creatures like the Minotaur or Medusa, who are still  part of our modern folklore. It can also be said that many of these brave heroes were willing to take risks, face dangerous  situations in order to gain more understanding of society itself with many moral affiliations.

For whatever reason, children are fascinated by grim tales of ogres crushing their bones or wolves hunting their grandmothers. Perhaps there is solace in reading such an ending where everybody seems to live-happily-ever-after; a common phrase deeply embedded into our daily stories as well.

The effect and value of myths or superheroes cannot be understated because they can actively impact our thinking or cognitive frameworks as to what is right, wrong, good, bad, enemy or champion. But ancient champions never had to face the cyber world, an interactive matrix where the dividing lines between virtual reality and the real world are often blurred.

So, what kinds of superhuman forces affect our modern social conscience? Where do superheroes exist today? Who lives happily-ever-after in our current struggles and culture?

It makes me weep like the myth of the weeping willow tree that serves as a reminder that love cannot exist without tears. Take a look around at what young people see and acknowledge as superheroes. One type is found in comic books via movies and video games; and a second type is found in the social media circus, especially for young teens.

Today’s cultural heroes on films have almighty superpowers to vanquish evil forces that would destroy humanity or the earth itself. They display great fights with dismemberment flying everywhere in a violent phantasmagoria. Good wins over evil but at what spectacle on the visual cortex and collateral damage to the innocent?

Video games particularly add a depth of hyper realism with graphics that bring the actions closer; blood, guts and brutality are now full frontal. At which point can game violence  jump from the screen to the family room or public front? The impact of violent media on kids is relatively unstudied or unknown; never a problem with Pegasus, unicorns or dragons until their violent modernization in Game of Thrones.  

Today, our culture has been impacted and controlled by an almighty Zeus known as the internet with its lightning bolts of interdependence and interactivity. There is no doubt that interactions with open-ended, unlimited media exposure have profoundly influenced the social, economic and even political arenas; as well as impacting the mythic and moral spheres of influence.

Two new kinds of internet action figures have arisen.

First, there is a new class of social media heroes or heroines who have mortal characteristics but with super normal magnetic attractions based on looks, money, connections, or fame who call out their siren song for everybody to like and follow them. But they live in reality shows that are as elusive as the Elysian beautiful meadows in the mythological underworld where only the godly favored could find perfect happiness in an ultimate paradise where popular brands abide, where money talks, with or without justification or morals. Mere mortals dare to dream, like mini gods and goddesses, as close as their fingertips as much as their newly programmed mind can turn the abnormal godly world into normal. Do these self-entitled heroes have the right to feed on dispossessed and vulnerable victims for what purposes like old ogres in Grimm tales?

Second, there is the active digital cyber hero who wants to be the all-mighty "tough guy;” quick to bully, derogate, and offer safe haven for followers of the same stripes and scars. This profound leap from ignoble loser to worshiped hero would never happen in a mythological world where strength in morality was as important as physical might. It can be said that only a socially abnormality like this can threaten the shared social consciousness where such mass media control can produce and endorse an anti-hero. Even democratic rules can dissipate in the flood of the richest and boldest celebrities who offer the most happy-ever-after mantras.

As a teacher, the point I am trying to make is that any cultural system helps to reproduce itself by the value of its symbols and heroes. We are all plugged into this public arena, watching and participating with different distinctly human behaviors; honor, pride, respect, or guilt, selfishness, shame, disgrace and dysphoria. 

So, how do we find a social conscience in a digital society where approval and disapproval are determined by narcissistic rewards of living up to hyped-up, unnatural group expectations even when virtual group standards are less worthy of social unity and freedom?

Remember what happened to Narcissus who was a very beautiful young man in Greek mythology, loved instantly by many for his looks for whom he only showed contempt. He even cast aside a nymph now forever called Echo because she wilted away from her unrequited sorrow to a mere sound. In retribution, a goddess, led Narcissus to a pool to see his own reflection, but when he realized that a reflection can never materialize into reality, he committed suicide. Therein lies the moral that narcissism or ego should not be about vanity and true self is beyond self-reflection or public perception. 

So how does this morality apply to posting Selfies for gratification for the sake of whose morality?

We can never undermine the fact that the combined power of the group in our culture is what makes our social conscience; greater than an individual, a collective rule of thumb. Our society’s heroes, groups and norms are us. 

However, the ingrained problem in any culture has always remained that we cannot remove the images, icons and concepts once they have marched across the stage or infiltrated the brain. People just want to believe in the impossible, in following the promises of heroes to add some magic to ordinary lives. Contradiction is futile in any cognitive schema of hope and living happily-for-ever-after.

Finally, so how can creative writing help?  We need to create new heroes who are gentler, kinder and more interactive who believe in the greater good in a more equitable and democratic society without recourse to violence. We need a brighter “heroic imagination,” with attitudes about caring, helping others,  and moving forward to defend moral causes. The internet offers such potential where every person can collaborate and share our acts both online and offline.

Here are two examples of creative writing to help set new role models for noble goals.

A story about a teen girl’s survival in social media with a personal superpower tool; namely, the management of a timeline connecting in real time the intangible past, present and future. What can be more powerful than that for success?

A story about a special water sprite with roots on a mission to discover cyclical truths in the natural ecosystem with continuous surprises about the interdependence of all living forms from the smallest to the invisible largest inhabitant. 

Our culture needs more stories and movies especially for younger people. How about your imagination to create a reality that matters to humanity? What kind of superheroes can you introduce with morals and beliefs to change the world? How can we work together towards to making the dream real and to live-happily-ever-after?

A Strange Thing Happens Writing This Story About the MS Journey for Twin Brothers

A strange thing happens as I continued to write about this MS journey for twin brothers. You climb to the top of this Sick Mountain; and look out at an all-encompassing landscape with more insight than before. Time for everyone to look and see a complex medical system established over decades that has spawned relationships and functions of many different participants. Time to see inalienable changes happening not so distantly.

First, you need to identify the background, pieces and players. It starts with a body of human biochemistry based on the integrity of a single cell to be healthy or sick. There are two basic kinds of diseases...infectious caused by outside agents with potential to be cured by drugs or cellular degenerative diseases often caused by lifestyle choices which drugs may treat but not cure. 

The largest most powerful structure is the FDA FORTRESS entrenched on drug experiments, mostly animal, in the name of clinical trials based on a double-blind, random process. Along the way, FDA passed a mandate that "only drugs can mitigate or cure disease;" so, they still actively continue to regulate herbs or seek natural patents for profits. 

Cannabis was called an illegal dangerous schedule 1 substance in 1972, regardless of thousands of years of showing various healing benefits.

In 2010, the MS community felt a paradigm shift which shook the medical system to its foundation. A Liberation War for Blood Flow began with scientific evidence that structural venous malformations affecting blood flow, or reflux, may cause MS inflammation, not an attack by the body's own protective immune cells.  As expected, the medical establishment and the MS Society, did not accept any new theory that questioned their mantra and drug money flow.

Now, here we are close to 2020, and a new challenger is literally growing in the medical landscape. The cannabis or marijuana plant has many cannabinoids that integrate with the body's own endocannabinoid receptors which may explain its natural affinity to healing various problems. So, this new Liberation War for Mother Nature's Cannabis is starting where people can return to natural botanical roots with a new mantra: better to be on the omniscient side of nature's pharmacy than against it. In other words, if a 50 year experimental laboratory era has produced such an over-medicalized society with few results, then who would deny giving Nature its fair turn? Not us.

It is inevitable that the FDA's drug culture will be seriously questioned; even as public trust is tarnished by the opioid crisis. This bastion will not disassemble readily and will resist with every legality they can formulate to maintain its superiority and profitability. The FDA  laboratories, filled with unpronounceable man-made chemicals, are standing at a crossroads ... how to clinically experiment with a natural product filled with phytochemicals in order to standardize a prescription that fits all needs.

In fact, the horizon clearly shows the many reasons why FDA may have too many conflicts to do this research properly. The climax of this journey is to call out that independent research is mandatory. There is no need to go through clinical trials and wait for approval to market a natural product through a highly detailed, specialized, and ultimate bureaucratic process that costs millions of dollars and takes years to complete. Who thinks drinking celery juice is risky?

The good news: there is a new, willing and able challenger to the FDA called the cannabis production company. This is where the governments, like Health Canada, can inspect, regulate and certify consistent and efficient production with leading edge technologies like automation, customization, scalability, with Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure purity and potency.

The chapters start at the beginning with MS diagnosis for my twin brothers ... tall, handsome strong men; to unsuccessful expensive drug treatments, to CCSVI rebels in Mexico when Canada blocked only MS patients from opening constricted veins, to Lyme's disease antibiotic treatments, to other possible options, to residential care, to divorce and cognitive disabilities. Strangely, a cat's spirit binds us all together.  

Interestingly, this journey about truth didn't plan to end with independent cannabis research; it just evolved to where there were no better directions and no better vista with the most hopes.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a devastating disease attacking body. mind and spirit, affecting the whole family. The cause is unknown and drug treatments based on animal experiments haven't worked well for 60 years. Once there was hope with CCSVI to improve blood flow through opening constricted veins denied by the system. There is new hope with medical cannabis where establishment control and obstructions must not be repeated.

  

About Me

I don’t know about you, but I am deeply bothered by Present Changes and wish my Past Voice to be heard. There seems to be a perversion of everyday virtues; a search for self-awareness based on feelings, looks, deficiencies and issues; encouraged by self-promotion and competition within a progressively threatening technology. Labor markets change; social bonds fade; fake news abides, challenging curiosity, knowledge and truth. Swamped with so much information, the ideologues emerge to live in a world of their own making within limitations to the causes and effects in the real world.

What if new stories and images can provide better solutions to these problems than a lecture of facts?

From the vantage point of 70 years, I can’t close my eyes and pretend I can’t see. I must ask how I can help others to believe in the kind of world where responsibility is important in a moral, ethical and social society. The one constant for coping with Change is to stay resilient and look for innovative solutions by practicing different ways of thinking and  new ways of perception or imagination. Our families and planet depend on this focus of what matters more than less.

To this point, I offer a personal mind stream with four important themes about rising up to imminent changes today and tomorrow.

I was born on a pioneer homestead without electric power where the value of hard work and rewards were ingrained. I now walk in a cyberspace both in amazement and fear of unprecedented opportunities to follow your nature or passions; hopefully, in wisdom, respect and hope.

I am a retired teacher with a deep appreciation of the process of learning and educating; from pointing out the difference between precepts and concepts; to why critical thinking matters; and how the decision-making process works with challenges and choices.

I am also part of an extended family and community and am concerned about their future.

Well. that's about it...I'm shaking my head, as you probably are, at this unusual conglomeration...way too much; but how to pick and choose among the valuable lessons and truths in my lifetime that can best help future generations in my honest opinion.

I would very much appreciate any comments, both good and bad, and whether

this personal mind stream is way of course and bound for an impassable waterfall.
